On the one hand, I love who he is becoming and have so much fun with him everyday. On the other hand....I want him to stop growing up!
Anyway, he had quite a birthday this year. I would like to think he had tons of fun. We started the day with balloons hanging in his face when he woke up, pancakes for breakfast and an episode of Elmo's World (ultimate favorite). We then got ready to go and headed down to San Diego and took the ferry over to Coronado Island. It was crowded, but he still seemed to enjoy being on the boat. When we got to the island, we stopped to have lunch at Little Piggy's BBQ and sat outside, which was perfect for the birthday boy because he was able to climb up and jump off of the curb the whole time!
After lunch we walked down the water, where there is a lovely grassy area with beautiful views of the San Diego Bay. Chris and I lounged on the grass while Cade picked flowers, threw dirt and rocks and climbed up and down on the bench. It was perfect weather and so relaxing for all of us. Before we left Cade chose his own flavors of ice cream ("pink and brown") of which he only ate a few bites, but it's the thought that counts right? We had another fun ride back on the ferry and the tired boy passed out as soon as we got in the car.
Gramma and Grampa Rawson, Auntie Lizabeth and Auntie Sara came over and brought dinner and a chocolate birthday cake! Cade LOVES his family and it was so nice to have them here to celebrate with him. We went for a walk to see the horsies, which is one of Cade's favorite things to do these days. After the walk, we sang to our little bug and his eyes lit up! It was so fun to see that he understood it was about him. We helped him blow out the candles and as Chris was going to get a knife, Cade just leaned in and took a bite out of his cake! It was priceless :) Cake was followed by presents, which he was very interested in and thanked everyone....so sweet. It was a long, fun day.
On Sunday, we had a party! I had been planning and creating his bug themed party for months. I decided to go with this theme because we refer to him as our little bug and it just seemed so appropriate. I asked my mom to pick him up early so that I and Chris and Auntie Sara could finish making food and get to the park to set up without Cade having to watch TV all morning or be under foot. He had a great morning playing outside with Gramma and Auntie Lizabeth. Exactly what I hoped for him to do.
The party was so fun. It was so nice to see friends and family come together to celebrate our little boy. It is so wonderful to see how many lives he has already touched and how much joy he brings to so many people. We ate, chatted and enjoyed each others company. Cade played with his friends, bubbles, climbed and slid.
When it came time to sing "Happy Birthday" to him, he sat up in a chair and waited as if he knew what we were doing. He sat listening with such happiness as we sang and as soon as it ended, he beamed and joined in the cheering and clapping :) It was just as I had hoped for our sweet, sweet boy.
Thank you so much to everyone who came and made that such a special day for him! Here's to another fun-filled year!
